About the Hadden Sexual Abuse Case

Robert Hadden, a former Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB/GYN) who worked for Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital, is accused of countless acts of sexual abuse by his former patients.

Under the guise of medical expertise, Hadden used his position of power to commit sexual abuse and exploitation over the course of his career. As an OBGYN for thousands of patients, including pregnant women, recent mothers and minors, Hadden attempted to pass off his sexual abuse as medically necessary procedures.

Though hundreds of Hadden’s victims have come forward, there are countless others that have not yet had their day in court. On top of that, Columbia University refused to notify thousands of its patients about Hadden’s history of exploitation and abuse.

Hadden has faced criminal charges for his conduct, but none have resulted in the prosecution he deserves. Shockingly, Hadden was arrested at a Columbia OBGYN clinic for abusing a patient, but was allowed to continue work unsupervised and see patients in private. In 2016, Hadden pleaded guilty to abusing 19 women, but did not face prison time and was placed on the lowest tier of the sex offendors list. He is awaiting trial on federal sex abuse charges.

Civil lawsuits have been filed on behalf of survivors of Hadden’s abuse against Columbia University and the hospitals Hadden worked at. These civil suits have resulted in significant compensation awarded to victims for their suffering.

If you or a loved one experienced abuse or exploitation by Robert Hadden at Columbia University between 1987 and 2016, contact ATD Law for more information. The institutions that employed Robert Hadden have evaded responsibility for too long, knowing full well that they were harboring a serial abuser.

Under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which goes into effect on November 24th, 2022, survivors of sexual assualt are able to file civil suits against their abusers and the institutions that allowed the abuse to occur. The Adult Survivors Act allows a one-year “lookback window” for this sort of legal action, permitting any person who was 18 years or older when abuse occurred to file a claim if the action is currently barred by the statute of limitations
